“Labouring the point”

This week Bex, along with several other young Dartmoor farmers, was invited by the Dartmoor Hill Farm Project to meet the Shadow Secretary of State MP Steve Reed.

We spent almost 2 hours with Mr Reed and his policy team which gave space for many around the table to air their concerns and the problems they face that need real solutions – fast. It was an intimate setting so no one felt lost or ignored and it meant voices really were heard. It was certainly quick paced and hard hitting to hear the problems we all face out loud.

Naturally as it is an election year the responses we got were probably to the tune we wanted to hear but he was honest in his priorities for agriculture which certainly gave us food for thought and i think his world wind tour of Dartmoor was appreciated by those who met him.

A huge positive from the meeting was the passion we all still hold for farming on the hill despite the adversity we face. I would especially like to mention The Dartmoor Shepherd duo Lewis and Flora who’s workshop and products are absolutely stunning and their innovate approach to survive in uncertain times is inspiring. I highly recommend visiting their shop in Chagford.

Just a little of what we get up to…
