Farming
At Trowlesworthy Warren we farm cattle, sheep and Dartmoor ponies. Our farm consists largely of common land where the animals share the space with dog walkers, hikers, riders and other livestock. We use more traditional methods and machinery which demands a very physical way of life but one that compliments the environment we farm.
‘limitation breeds creativity’
History
Trowlesworthy is made up of all different pieces of history that overlap one another in the landscape. Everywhere you walk there is evidence of its popular past so you can quite literally trip over, sit in and climb years gone by. From prehistoric landscape and Bronze Age hut circles to the local history of the rabbits on Drake’s island being brought to Trowlesworthy Warren. Even the stone walls don’t match as each field has its own story to tell.
Conservation
We have always farmed with the environment in mind due to our beautiful location but now we, as a nation, have a deeper understanding of the importance of carbon capturing we are actively helping to preserve the peat lands on Trowlesworthy through holistic methods.
Above the leat the moorland is labelled a Special Scientific Site of Interest (SSSI) and it can be quite interesting to compare it to the ‘normal’ moorland.

Phone a Farmer
Let’s make a term (or year) of it!
Receive videos of different things happening on and around the farm and continue your relationship with Trowlesworthy from inside the classroom.
You can also book live Facetime sessions where we can answer questions and show you what is happening right there and then.

Facilities
On the farm we have a dedicated space for days when visits are booked. Here back packs and equipment can be stored, rustic toilet and hand-washing facilities can be used and it’s a great shelter from the unpredictable Dartmoor weather! We can also provide tables and a projector.
Need the facilities to come to you? Not a problem, we know Trowlesworthy covers a large area and therefore we can bring our rural toilet and hand washing facilities to somewhere more suitable to support your visit.
Parking
Due to the nature of where Trowlesworthy Warren is set access to the farm can be limited so depending on the size of your group we recommend parking in the following places and starting your adventure from there!
