John Muir Award

“The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme. It encourages you to connect with with nature, and care for wild places.”

This is a wonderful award scheme to get individuals, families and groups out and about and take a deeper look at the wild places around them. We are pleased to have been supported by the Foundation for Commonland to deliver the award in full or as part of your personal journey to achieve the award.

The award scheme focuses on 4 challenges:

DISCOVER, EXPLORE, CONSERVE and SHARE

At Trowlesworthy we will take you around the moorland and fields where you can discover an area you want to explore further. Together we will then come up with ways you can help conserve your chosen area and create a fun way to share your experience. We will document your findings and submit the paperwork necessary to earn your certificated award.

This is a great opportunity to learn practical skills such as stone walling, bracken bruising, species counting and animal gathering. To get a better idea of what Trowlesworthy has to offer visit our Educational Visits Page.

Along the way we will also talk about who John Muir was and how he influenced the National Park systems we know today, his work may even inspire you on how you’ll share your experience.
